Phase 2 of Bethany’s Makeover!

So, the holidays are over and it is time to check in with our makeover candidate!

She loves the new floorplan (see below) and is ready to start getting things in place!

We have managed to convince my father, the contractor, to donate his time in removing the very sad bookcases flanking the fireplaces.  These shelving units were obviously not original to the house and I am praying that there is oak flooring underneath!

Whew, they are out and thank god there is oak flooring!  Although, a large patch job was needed to repair the holes.  Who knew melamine bookcases needed so much anchoring to the walls?  And, they decided to tear out the ugly fireplace hearth and replace with something nicer in the future…also trying to decide what color stone is under the white paint, how should we treat the fireplace?

Here are the photos of the fireplace wall in progress.  It really opens up the space!

Bethany & I went shopping and she fell in love with this rug from Pottery Barn which also inspired our drapery panel color selection.  Luckily, we were able to find pillows and a throw that match perfectly, too!

Makeover Time – Phase 1!

Bethany was fortunate enough to win a room makeover prize that entitled her to 8 hours of Kimberly’s time at DesignSpeak‘s website launch party.  (Learn more about DesignSpeak!)

Here are the BEFORE photos.  As you can see, the room does not have an inviting or functional layout.  The previous owners added inexpensive bookshelves on either side of the asymmetrical fireplace which do not balance well in the space.  Bethany and her husband already have a few pieces of leather furniture that I think we can make work to our advantage.  I’m hoping with a little space planning and a few new items we can transform this living room!
